What is Soma Central Texas?
Soma central Texas is a family of city churches (currently City Life & Redeemer) that work together as a part of the Soma family to catalyze the planting of missional communities throughout central Texas. Residency Vision & Core Values
Soma Communities Central Texas Residency program exists to train, immerse, and release leaders to plant gospel-centered, reproducing, missional community churches that renew cities social y, spiritual y, and cultural y.
The planter’s philosophy of church planting wil be shaped by six key values: Program Strengths
• Immersion in missional community life, leadership and multiplication.
• Access to shadow and learn from pastors on the ground leading missional
communities with a variety of gifting.
• Earn a fully accredited Bachelors or Masters degree through Antioch Central Texas (for a 1/4th of the cost of a traditional seminary).
• Network with a variety of church planters in the central Texas area.
• Monthly meetings with your assigned coach who is working with your personal development plan to coach you through your development.
• Participate in staff meetings and observe multiple worship gatherings in the • Assessment and recommendations by the local church elders who get to know you personal y over your three year residency.
• Opportunity to plant as part of the regional church in Austin or be sent out to start a new movement of missional communities.
• Participate in Soma School (week long immersion training in year 1)• Develop your own missional community planting strategies in theory and practice as a part of the city church.
Church Planter Competencies
Corresponding with our six core values, the planter wil gain the fol owing competencies after completing the church planting residency.

The residency has a one and three year track, depending on whether you elect to obtain a Masters through Antioch Theological School. 1 Year Intensive
The 1 year residency is divided in two experiences: exploration and release. The first
half of the residency the resident is exposed to everything in the church planting experience. It is a full immersion with responsibilities and mentorship. Throughout this period, mentor meetings al ow for reflection points to discern gifting, cal ing, and focus of the resident. During this time, we discern gifting in order to release the resident into effective leadership on mission. The second half of the residency the resident is released to plant a missional community based on everything they have learned. This al ows them to work out their leadership on mission with continued coaching and a safety net before they plant a church on their own. The residency concludes with an official assessment 1st 6 Months

2nd 6 Months
- Mid year assessment and goals evaluation
- Join the core team of a newly launched Missional Community
- Involved in making disciples in your Missional Community context
- Lead and organize a expression level event
- Elder Assessment and network assessment as needed
- Quarterly character and leadership assessments
- Developing written adapted strategies for your planting context
- Prayer and strategy for planting location and timeline
- Practical needs assessment and action steps created 3 Year Track
The 3 Year Track includes the first year experience as well as extensive theological
education, team building, fundraising, and more church planting training.

1st 6 Months
- Acts Course/Pauline Course (Antioch Theological Education)
- Join Missional Community
- Soma School (ASAP)
- Shadowing assigned leaders
- Involved in basic service to church/community
- Assess Progress with local church and Antioch Central Texas director
2nd 6 Months
- Continue Antioch Coursework
- Attend PlantR and GCM trainings at least quarterly
- Join the core team of a newly launched Missional Community
- Involved in making disciples in your Missional Community context
- Preaching Group completed and craft sermon (present if capable)
2nd Year
- Part time work at host church (finances permitting)
- Attend Quarterly Events
- Teach Acts Course (Antioch)
- Gather a core and launch a new Missional Community
- Preach when needed in church or network
- Fundraise for Apprenticeship and begin to develop vision for church plant
- Continue Coursework (classes and strategy papers)
- Develop ministry skil s while working with Team leaders for local gathering.
- Begin Elders Training and Assessment process
- Assess Progress with host church and Antioch Central Texas director
3rd Year
- Full time work at church (finances permitting)
- Attend PlantR and GCM trainings at least once a quarter
- Finish Coursework (Antioch classes and strategy papers)
- Finish Teaching Practicum (Pauline – Leaders 9 Credits)
- Finish Elders Track and Assessment
- Continue to work on development of ministry skil s and refine gifting
- Assessment for A29 or church planting network- Attend a29 boot camp- With help of host church mentor, prepare and preach sermon series- Hand off Missional Community to developed leader- Assist host church with 1st year apprentices- Create sending or joining action plan with regional church leadership.
