This package insert includes details about the following: 1. What is GINSENG SL and what is it used for? 2. What should you bear in mind before taking GINSENG SL? 3. How should GINSENG SL be taken? 4. Which side-effects may appear? 5. How should GINSENG SL be stored?
Active ingredient: the pharmaceutically active component is the dry extract from ginseng root.
1 hard capsule contains 166.7 mg dry extract from ginseng root in a ratio of drug to extract of 2.1 – 3.9 : 1.
The solvent (extractive) is 40% ethanol (V/V). The other components are: maltodextrin; gelatine; colloidal silicon dioxide; micro-crystalline cellulose; povidone K 30; magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.); titanium dioxide E 171; sodium dodecyl sulphate. GINSENG SL can be obtained in original packs with 50 or 100 hard capsules. 1. as a restorative tonic and for fortifying those who have feelings of tiredness and weakness, or suffer from reduced
efficiency or the ability to concentrate.
2. WHAT SHOULD YOU BEAR IN MIND BEFORE TAKING GINSENG SL? 2.1. GINSENG SL may not be taken
if you are oversensitive (allergic) to the pharmaceutically active ingredient or one of the other components.
Do not take it if you are receiving treatment for diabetes (diabetes mellitus).
2.2. Particular caution is needed before taking GINSENG SL if
a) the feelings of weakness, tiredness or disorders of concentration persist over a long period of time – this also
applies in the case of all unclear complaints – a doctor should be consulted, as it may be that the disorder
b) you propose to take the medicine whilst, at the same time, taking drugs that inhibit blood clotting belonging to
the coumarin type (phenprocoumon, warfarin). You should consult your doctor in advance. In this case, close
control of the coagulation values in the blood up to 14 days following discontinuation of this drug is required, in
order to match the dosage to the blood coagulation inhibiting drug. You should also pay attention to the
supplementary information under point 2.3.
c) Patients with diabetes (diabetes mellitus) should consult their doctor before taking this drug, as ginseng
preparations can influence the blood sugar level. The blood sugar level should be closely controlled. Please also
take notice of the advice given under point 2.3.
There are no adequate investigations available concerning the use of this drug for children. Therefore, it should
not be administered to children under the age of 12 years.
This drug should not be used during pregnancy and during the nursing period, as no adequate investigations are
f) Fitness to drive and operate machines
2.3. Interactions with other drugs
When taking this drug at the same time as drugs that inhibit blood clotting of the coumarin type
(phenprocoumon, warfarin), their effect can be diminished. Please note that this can also be the case when they
were used several hours or days before. Ginseng preparations can influence the blood sugar level.
Interactions with drugs used for treating diabetes (diabetes mellitus) are possible, but have not yet been
investigated. Please pay attention also to the advice given under point 2.2c.
Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently taking other drugs or have used any drugs recently,
even if these are non-prescription drugs.
2.4. Taking GINSENG SL together with foodstuffs and drinks
No special precautions need to be observed.
3. How should GINSENG SL be taken?
When taking GINSENG S, you should always precisely follow the instructions given in the package insert. Please
consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
3.1. Mode of application
3.2. Unless your doctor prescribes a dosage different from the normal one, the following dosages apply:
For adults and adolescents older than 12 years: 1 - 2 hard capsules 2 times daily.
Do not take hard capsules when lying down.
Please take the hard capsules without chewing, with sufficient fluid (preferably a glass of water). Please consult
your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak.
As a rule, up to three months. Because of the continued effect of ginseng preparations, we recommend a break of
one month before taking it again. Please also take note of the supplementary information under point 2.2a.
3.3. If you have taken more GINSENG SL than you should have done:
If you have accidentally taken 1 or 2 individual doses (equivalent to 1-2 hard capsules) more than intended, this
will, as a rule, have no detrimental consequences. But, in this case, you should continue taking the medicine as
prescribed in the dosage recommendations or has been prescribed by your doctor. If you have taken a much
greater overdose, well-known symptoms may appear, with increased severity, as side-effects, such as stomach
pains, nausea and diarrhoea. In this case, you are advised to consult your doctor. If needed, he will advise you
about any measures which may be necessary.
3.4. If you forget to take GINSENG SL:
Do not take a double dose, but only continue taking or using it as directed in the package insert or has been

Interrupting or early termination of the treatment normally has no consequences. In case of doubt, please consult
4. WHICH SIDE-EFFECTS MAY APPEAR?
In people who are particularly sensitive, nausea, stomach disorders and mild diarrhoea may occur. If side-effects
do occur, you should inform your doctor, in order that he may assess how serious these are and whether any
measures to counteract them are necessary.
You should inform your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any side-effects that are not listed in the package insert.
5. HOW SHOULD GINSENG SL BE STORED?
You should keep medicines out of the reach of children.
You must not use the medicine after the expiring date printed on the package material or blister.
Do not store above 25° C! You should store the med icine in the original packing, in order to protect the contents
