Time to Treatment is Crucial
If recently injured patients with serious bleeding were to President
receive a cheap, widely available and easily administered drug to help their blood to clot, tens of thousands of lives could be saved every year. The CRASH-2 trial was a large, randomised President Elect
trial involving over 20,211 adult patients in 274 hospitals across 40 countries. Over 4760 patients and their families from 84 hospitals in India participated in this research. The results Hon. Secretary
of the international CRASH-2, trial, show that early administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) to patients with recent, severe bleeding injuries saves lives, with no evidence ofadverse effects from unwanted clotting. An hour can make the Past President
difference between life and death when using tranexamic acid to treat injured patients with severe bleeding. New analysis of the CRASH-2 trial shows that rapid treatment preferably within an hour of injury dramatically cuts bleeding deaths in injured patients. This discovery, published in The Lancet, has Treasurer
significant implications for Indian patients. Approximately 85,000 people die in India every year from severe traumatic bleeding. Giving tranexamic acid to patients within the firsthour of injury could save the lives of 12,500 patients every year.

Administration of tranexamic acid reduced mortality by around 10%.Early treatment (within an hour of injury) reduced the risk of death due to bleeding by more than 30%. Treatment given between one and three hours cuts the risk of bleeding deathby 20% but there was no benefit if treatment was delayed Editor IJNT
